In the early 80's while attending The San Francisco Art institute, Jim Goldberg photographed in the welfare hotels of San Francisco's Tender Loin and at the homes of the wealthy donors of SFAI. He then printed the images and took them back to his subjects and had them write on the prints, the results of which make up this now legendary book.
